This Week at Downend

Nursery

This week in Nursery, we have been getting creative with some Autumnal crafts! We were invited to use dried leaves, paper pumpkins and white paint. We experimented with using the leaves to paint with, pressing them down onto the paper to leave lots of different marks!

We also went on a trip to the Curiosity Room in Pre-School! There was lots to explore in here. Some of us enjoyed the new books, sitting and focusing well and turning the pages independently. We also really enjoyed the interactive whiteboard! We all had a turn playing the matching games and jigsaw puzzles, and 'painting' with the stylus!

Kindergarten

This week in Kindergarten we have been practicing our fine motor skills! We were invited to explore the colourful pompoms and egg boxes. We tried to match the right colours to the ones painted on the bottom of the boxes, and used tweezers and pincher finger movements to move the pompoms into the egg boxes!

Out in the garden we took a look at our bug hotel, and to our surprise found two BIG snails! We watched them for a while, noticing how they moved across the wood leaving a slimy trail. We then had a go at walking sloooowly across the garden, like a slippery snail!

In the tuff tray this week we flexed our construction skills with some lego pieces and connector blocks! We could make anything we wanted from these shapes, carefully fitting the pieces together. Some of us made tall houses, whilst some of us made cars!

Pre-School

This week in Pre-School, we enjoyed a special snacktime in the dining room decorating some satsumas! We used felt tip pens to replicate the patterns found on carved pumpkins, adding eyes, noses and spooky smiles!

In the garden we took part in a butterfly hunt, looking at our chart and peeking into the bushes and trees to see if we could spot any! Sadly we didn't find any butterflies - but we DID spot a big furry caterpillar! We used our gentle hands to carefully move him onto a leaf, and watched as he curled up into a swirly shape!

Back inside, in the art studio we have been using cotton wool to paint! We dipped the cotton balls into autumnal colours and dabbed them onto the bare trees, making leaves!
