This Week at Downend

Nursery

This week in Nursery, we explored a wibbly wobbly jelly activity! Some of us cautiously explored the new textures, whilst some of us grabbed handfuls of the jelly, squeezing it and watching it fall back into the tray!

Some of us have been feeling groovy, joining in with the 'Sticky Kids' CD! We listened to the different songs, that prompt us to move in various ways...we marched around the room, jumped up and down, and wiggled our arms side to side!

In the art studio, we got creative making collages! We could choose from lots of different resources like pompoms, feathers and pipe cleaners. We carefully picked up each piece and used glue to stick them down on paper plates - we were so proud of our artwork!

Kindergarten

This week in Kindergarten the children celebrated International Elephant Day! We looked at pictures of elephants in the wild, learning that they drink water using their trunks. We then decorated our own masks, marching around the room making elephant noises and miming drinking water with our trunks!

On the art table we have been looking at different shapes and colours. We were encouraged to look closely at the outlines of the shapes, and see if we could spot those shapes in the toys and resources around the room! We then brought them back to the table to draw around using pencils and crayons.

In the dinosaur tuff tray, we focused really well on the different pictures, and tried to match each to the toy dinosaur! We talked to the adults, noting whether the dinosaur we had picked up had a long neck, spikes, or long tails. This helped us find the correct match!

Pre-School

This week in Pre-School we have spent lots of time at the Woodworking station! We waited for our turn patiently, and listened well to the adults as they explained how each tool works and how to use them safely. We had a go at hammering nails into balsa wood, making patterns!

Out in the garden some of us explored our new garden scales. We asked about the spirit level in the middle, and the adults explained that's how we know the scales are balanced. We then had a go adding different objects to the buckets on either side, predicting whether each will be heavier or lighter than the other!

In the art studio we have been expressing ourselves creatively, painting masterpieces! As we made marks with brushes we talked about what we were creating, and who we were making the paintings for!
