Nursery (6)

w/c 22nd August 2022
This Week at Downend

Nursery

This week in Nursery we got stuck into an exciting mess free sensory activity! We explored paint that was placed inside a plastic wallet, being encouraged to use our hands and fingers to move the mixture. We focused really well on this activity, trying out different movements to find ways to mix the colours together!

This concept was extended into the art studio too, where some of us explored painting onto plastic wrap! We tried using the rollers, moving them across the surface and observing how the paint moved and mixed together.

We also loved making a craft collage, gluing different textures like pasta, sequins and glitter to the paper!

Kindergarten

This week in Kindergarten we have been looking at why we brush our teeth! We read the book 'brush, brush, brush' and practiced the motion on the model teeth! We then looked at some paper teeth, which were dirty - so we used paint brushes to sweep away all the dirt! As we did so the adults explained that brushing our teeth takes away the bits of food left in our mouths, and brushes away the germs.

In the tuff tray we have been washing the toy babies! We were careful to use our gentle hands, using cloths and warm water to wipe the paint off. As we did this we spoke about bathtimes, sharing which toys we like to play with and whether we like having our baths hot or cold!

In the garden some of us showed interest in playing with the toy cars. We created ramps using the wooden planks, moving them higher and lower to see what effect that would have on the cars. We then experimented with moving them across different surfaces!

Pre-School

This week in Pre-School, we explored a tuff tray full of different dry ingredients! We used lots of tools to move this mixture of rice, oats and cornflakes. Some of us used tweezers to carefully lift and move small amounts, some of us tried out cupcake cases and mugs to scoop it all up and pour it back down into the tray!

In the art area we had a go at using scissors safely! We looked through some old Red Bus brochures, pointing out the different objects we could spot. We then tried carefully cutting around each shape, with the adults there to make sure we stay safe!

In the garden there was lots of excitement as we found a dragonfly! We were all very quiet and patient as Kerri showed the group. We tried to name all the different colours on the insect, and counted how many delicate wings it has!
