This Week at Downend

Nursery

This week in Nursery we took part in a multisensory mark making activity! We were invited to paint onto bubble wrap, using brushes rollers and stamps. We moved the paint around, noticing that if we pressed hard enough the bubbles would crackle and pop - wow!

We also focused really well, exploring this dinosaur themed tray. We used our hands to move the mixture, experiencing the strange soft textures! We used our hands to make small piles, and tried using tools to move through the mix, leave marks on the bottom of the tray.

Kindergarten

This week in Kindergarten there have been lots of different invitations to play! We explored a red, white and blue themed sensory tray, filled with Union Jack flags and photographs of the Queen. We used our hands to feel all the different textures available, and spoke about what we could see in the photographs.

As it was Roald Dahl day this week we also got stuck into lots of literary activities! Some of us tried making George's Marvellous Medicine, invited to use mix and blend lots of different resources. We could pick from lentils, sequins, shower gel and more - we mixed and matched the ingredients, noticing how the texture changed with each new addition!

In the garden we had a go at leaf rubbing! We looked around, collecting different sizes and shapes of leaves. We then listened to the adults carefully as they explained how to roll crayon over the surface gently, we had a go and revealed lots of different intricate patterns!

Pre-School

This week in Pre-School we have noticed the seasons have been changing and lots of natural resources are available! We went on a nature hunt, collecting resources such as conkers, pine cones, dried and fresh leaves. We took our time, exploring each resource and talking about how they feel - smooth, rough, shiny, crunchy!

In the garden there was some more natural magic, as we tried making Woodland Potions! We listened as the adults read through the recipe - a brightly coloured leaf, a feather, a scented flower - we tried our best to find each of the elements to add to our magic cauldron!

We also became mini-excavators this week, using the small world construction vehicles to tackle a mountain of dried rice! We tried lots of different methods and approaches, working together the move the rice around and collect them in different areas.
